Media Statement on the Current Armed Conflict in Mindanao

15 August 2008 -- The National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW), the government's machinery for women's advancement, appeals for sobriety in the face of the fragile security situation in Mindanao

Women and children account for the majority of those adversely affected by armed conflicts. We count on the LGUs-involved, the national government, civil society and the MILF to take care of the special needs of women and children and in responding to the current situation. Also, the NCRFW reminds parties concerned to protect women and children at all cost from all forms of violence such as rape and prostitution. We appeal to all parties concerned to resolve the on-going conflicts through peaceful means and to respect life and uphold the rights of all victims caught in the middle of this discord.
