SUMMARY "AN ACT LOWERING THE AGE OF MAJORITY FROM TWENTY-ONE TO EIGHTEEN YEARS, AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBERED TWO HUNDRED NINE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES" Signed: December 13, 1989 This law brought changes to the Family Code with regard emancipation. It provides that emancipation, which has the effect of terminating parental authority over the person and property of child, shall take place upon reaching the age of majority which is at 18 years old.
