President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Message E-mail
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 16:54

Warmest felicitations to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) for spearheading the nationwide observance of the International Women's Day on March 8 and the 2010 Women's Month.

We join the global community in celebrating these two signihcant events.

This year, we give due recognition to women's successes as resonated by the theme, "Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan!" Where there is a challenge to prove women's worth in various male-dominated sector, women step up and make a difference. We hear a lot of stories about successful women here and abroad. These manifest women's major contributions in nation-building and development.

My administration has always been guided by the principle that empowering women will pave the way to  building a stronger nation. We have identified three core concerns for development: human rights, economic empowerment, and gender-responsive governance.

Our achievement in addressing gender imbalance is truly remarkable. For three years now, the Philippines remains the leading Asian country in the top rankings of the Global Gender Gap Reporl published by the World Economic Forum. I proudly share with you the joy of attaining such highly applauded status.

The highlight of this year's celebration is the enhancement of the Magna Carta of Women. This law is another battle won by women. And it coincides with this year's theme. With the PCW at the helm and with unwavering support of other government agencies and LGUs, our country is poised to continuously break the back of gender inequality and make women asseft themselves.

May all these continue to inspire us in our journey for a stronger nation.

Mabuhay tayong lahat!

Sgd: President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
