"What's good with the GREAT Women Project is that now, there's a program focusing on the economic empowerment of women. Whereas before the thrust of the Commission was on social issues concerning women. Now there's a program that can address how to promote women's entrepreneurship and how they could earn a living and help their families. With this project, what we have learned is how to have convergence with other agencies in the delivery of services of women and how we should focus on where the women are, like in the food processing sector and the health and wellness sector, where women dominate." Lydia Guevarra, Officer-in-Charge, Office of Special Concerns, DTI
"The GREAT Women Project has meant a lot to the lives of people in PALMA Alliance, because at the beginning, our perception/orientation was so different with regards to providing development in the rural area. Now that we have gender and development orientation and we have also women economic entrepreneurs, we are pretty much aware that women are already part of the mainstream of development. The conduct of the baseline study in rural women economic entrepreneurs, I believe gave us the best picture of what is happening in the area. The results were so enormous that we were able to use the results in the planning and decision-making of every local government unit workshop and we are directed on what interventions to do in giving much development in the women's sector." Hon. Loreto Cabaya, PALMA Alliance Chairperson and Aleosan Mayor
"The biggest result for Metro Naga is the realization among our member-LGUs on the role of women in enterprise development, that there is a need for governance mechanisms which will help women contribute more to our own local economic development." Reuel Oliver, Executive Director of Metro Naga Development Council
"Through the GREAT Women Project Intervention, we gained better understanding of how we go about improving delivery of services to our constituents through effective partnership with our local government unit and national government agencies for our One-Town-One-Product Program, particularly in the improvement of processes and designs, which translate to better output and higher sales." Hon. Fermin Mabulo, Mayor of San Fernando, Camarines Sur
"Women in the area have a chance to access trainings and for them to enhance their skills, for them to be able to use these skills for professional development enhancement and empowerment sustained economically and for them to ultimately become business leaders." Enedina Cacabelos, Woman Entrepreneur in PALMA Alliance
"With the GREAT Women Project's trainings and seminars of other agencies and NCRFW, my colleagues at WEDA and I learned on business. Before the Project, we really did not know much about handling a business. We learned to develop products for business and our livelihood grew. We were able to help out our partners and help our families. That's why our members now have better lives." Pura Caramat, Chairperson of Women Entrepreneurs
for Development and Advancement (WEDA) Association and Representative of Women's NGO in Metro Naga |
