18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
CULMINATES IN CEBU

A conference on trafficking and violence against women and children will mark the Philippine culmination of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) on December 12 at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City.


Hosted by the Region 7 Sub-Committee on Gender, Anti-Trafficking and Anti-VAWC,in partnership with the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW) and the United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF), the culminating activities will signify the end of the nationwide commemoration of the 18-Day Campaign which started last November 25 and marked with various activities focused on the stronger implementation on the laws protecting women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, human trafficking, and intimate partner abuse.


"As we observe International Day Against Trafficking on December 12, we culminate the18-Day Campaign to end VAW with an appeal for people to uphold women's human rights and put an end to discrimination against women," NCRFW Executive Director Emmeline L. Verzosa said.


"The Philippine Strategic Plan on Violence Against Women and their Children which will be launched on that day directs all stakeholders to integrate and synergize their efforts to fully implement the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act (RA 9262)," added Verzosa.


Highlights of the culminating activity will include the launch of the State of World's Children (SOWC) 2007 Report by the United Nation Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the showcase of experiences in combating trafficking in persons.
